Utorrent: reconnect to offline tracker with Vidalia

If Internet Service Provider (ISP) is blocking Bittorrent (BT), user might have problem in connecting to trackers. As a  result, torrent are getting less seeds and peers, and all the peers come from DHT, Local Peer Discovery and Peer Exchange only.

By using Vidalia as proxy, utorrent is able to connect to trackers. One of  the advantage to use Vidalia is that you do not need to change settings everytime the proxy is dead. Vidalia is a GUI control with Tor which allow user to connect anonymously on the Internet. To know more about Vidalia, visit wikipedia.org.

How to use Vidalia together with Utorrent?

After downloading latest version of Vidalia, follow the guideline and install it. Then open Vidalia, there will be an onion-like icon in System Tray. The anonymous network is ready when Onion turns to green from yellow colour.

Now open utorrent, and go to Options > Preferences > Connection, change the settings as follow:

Then, either wait for the trackers to retry or update trackers yourself manually. You might have found out that most of your trackers go online and torrent is ready to connect to more seeds and peers.

Please note that this method might probably not work for you, it really depends on how your ISP is blocking the bittorrent protocol.
